Title: Ryker (The Powers That Be #4)
Author: Harper Bentley
Release Date: Dec 31, 2015

Ryker Powers was the biggest prick I’d ever met.
He was also my biggest mistake.
He’d taken what he wanted then left, and I detested him for it. Not that the jerk had cared to stick around long enough to know how I felt.
Everyone thought he was a perfect gentleman with all his quiet intensity but I knew better.
I knew he had a filthy mouth. That he liked things dirty.
He may have had people fooled into thinking he was a nice guy but I knew exactly who he was.
He was a bad boy who’d ask for a light from the devil himself.
And I wanted to see him burn.
Until I realized—to my utter horror—that what I really wanted was him.
Who was going to get burned now?

Excerpt

(Alexandre):

I was trying so hard to limit the complications in my life—e.g. limit the amount of women. Hone it down to just one.

I didn’t consider myself a “multi-tasker” by nature—not even when it came to women.

Quality, not quantity, was what I was aiming for.

But it was proving to be a tough call.

I was beginning to realize that my mantra of treating women well was backfiring on me.

You see I have a code:

• No woman is a “slut.” Ever. I do not use that word in my vocabulary. If a woman is sleeping around or being promiscuous it’s because she is searching: for love, for a good time, for a good orgasm, for an escape. Or maybe even for money. For whatever reason it may be, no man (or woman) has a right to judge her.

• Always call a woman after a date. Even if you never want to see her again. Why? Because it’s polite. Tell her you had a nice time. Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself, especially women.

• Don’t bullshit a woman. Don’t say, “I’ll call you,” if you don’t mean it. If you just want sex, make that clear from the beginning. Don’t make promises you can’t keep.

• Always walk her home at night, drive her home or call a cab. Pay for the cab yourself. Make sure she has unlocked her door before you drive away.

• Don’t invite yourself into her house. Like a vampire, let yourself be invited.

• Don’t fuck another man’s girl, no matter how tempting.

• The most important rule of all: When you fuck her, let her come first.

Cadence Lewis has been dancing since she could walk. Living in New York with her parents she has the chance to go to the best dance school in the country, but when her father does the unthinkable she’s forced to leave her dreams behind and move to a small southern town with her mom.  Cadence is having a hard time adjusting to her new life when she meets Jade Carpenter.  Jade starts to show Cadence that small-town life isn’t so bad, but when Cadence has a chance to go back to New York she is on the next flight and will do anything to get her old life back.

“What did you say? A stroke?” I ask with concern and confusion.
“Not literally. If you haven’t noticed it’s hot and sticky here, makes you feel like you’re a stick of butter melting. I can promise that you don’t want to be out here in the heat of the day, but if you don’t get to moving, you will be.”
“I’m not doing any of it Gran. This is not what I signed up to do.”
“Sugar, the moment you disrespected me was the moment I knew it was time to teach you a lesson or two about life. So pick up those boots and march your ass right in there.” Holy shit! Gran cursed!
“What? Shit ain’t a bad word. Look out there. There’s plenty of it,” she says pointing to the pasture. As I turn back to Gran I notice my cellphone lodged in a pile of crap.
“Gran, my phone! It landed in a pile of crap.”
“Well, brush it off.”
“Oh, no, I’m not touching that and now I need a new phone. How am I going to talk to Lauren and my other friends without a phone?”
“I have one in the house. Now quit your whining and get started on those stalls.”
Reluctantly, I follow Gran into the barn. Hearing a crazy sound, I have no idea what I’m about to do, but I pray it doesn’t have anything to do with a cow’s tatas.
Casey Peeler grew up in North Carolina and still lives there with her husband and daughter.
Growing up Casey wasn't an avid reader or writer, but after reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston during her senior year of high school, and multiple Nicholas Sparks' novels, she found a hidden love and appreciation for reading.  That love ignited the passion for writing several years later, and her writing style combines real life scenarios with morals and values teenagers need in their daily lives.
When Casey isn't writing, you can find her near a body of water listening to country music with a cold beverage and a great book.

ARC Review
Tutus & Cowboy Boots (Part 1)

By
Casey Peeler
As a reader, I am usually rather easy to please when I stick to my preferred genres. Casey Peeler does not disappoint with this story but I do miss a little something which is why it is a 4 star read rather than 5 star. Still, if you are a teenager/young adult (rather than a soon-to-be old lady like myself) you will most likely enjoy this book.
Cadence Lewis is your typical teenage girl who is dealing with feeling of betrayal and abandonment. When relocated to a destination she deems beneath her she comes across as a stuck-up, I-am-too-good-for you little Miss Diva. Cadence is written well enough but the character does not surprise.
Barrick is the good old well-mannered Southern country boy again with no surprise to his character. He made me smile though as he pulled pranks on Cadence, and I do believe, we would all like to bring him home.
If you are looking for a new twist to a seen before plot, then keep looking. But if you want a feel-good-make-you-smile book that leaves you happy, then this is for you.

BEWARE! This book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger.

synopsis
In the year 1956, Anastacia Fotopoulos finds herself pregnant and betrayed, fleeing from a bad marriage. With the love and support of her dear friends Stavros and Soula Papadakis, Ana is able to face the challenges of single motherhood. Left with emotional wounds, she resists her growing affection for Alexandros Giannakos, an old acquaintance. But his persistence and unconditional love for Ana and her child is eventually rewarded and his love is returned. In a misguided, but well-intentioned effort to protect the ones they love, both Ana and Alex keep secrets - ones that could threaten the delicate balance of their family.
The story continues in the 1970’s as Dean and Demi Papadakis, and Sophia Giannakos attempt to negotiate between two cultures. Now Greek-American teenagers, Sophia and Dean, who have shared a special connection since childhood, become lovers. Sophia is shattered when Dean rebels against the pressure his father places on him to uphold his Greek heritage and hides his feelings for her. When he pulls away from his family, culture and ultimately his love for her, Sophia is left with no choice but to find a life different from the one she’d hoped for. EVANTHIA’S GIFT is a multigenerational love story spanning fifty years and crossing two continents, chronicling the lives that unify two families.
excerpt
Anastacia sat at her desk, absentmindedly eating a salad while
daydreaming as she stared out the office window. Down below, people
walked briskly through the city. Where were they running? An actress
late for an audition? An investment banker meeting a wealthy client?
Lovers meeting for lunch? The possibilities were endless in this
eclectic and energetic city, yet hers were limited. She wrapped her
hands around a mug of steaming tea and looked around the room. The
gray walls matched the gray chairs, which matched the gray desks.
Dull, dull, and dull. There were no paintings on the walls or plants
to brighten up the room. It was practical and functional. The exciting
New York life she hoped for was outside these walls, but someone else
was living it.
Anastacia remembered how as a young girl, she had poured over
Photoplay magazines as if they were the Bible, imagining that one
day her life would be equally as exciting. When her mamá ordered
her to nap during the afternoon break from school, she would sneak
the magazines under her pillow and read about the fabulous lives of
Vivien Leigh, Ava Gardner and Hedy Lamarr, and swoon over the
pictures of Robert Taylor and Cary Grant. Pretending her footboard
was a barre, Anastacia would teach herself ballet. She begged her
father to take dance lessons.
“Good girls don’t do such things,” he told her firmly. That was
that. There was no negotiating. Apparently, there were a lot of things
“good girls” didn’t do. They didn’t ride bicycles, shave their legs, wear
lipstick or talk to boys.
