Title: The Truth of a Liar
Author: Cassie Graham
Release Date: Oct 20, 2015

“Life doesn’t always go according to plan. In fact, it has a nasty habit of veering off the map. So when my job led me to New York City, something extraordinary happened…her script merged with mine.”
Hadley Theater, New York City, New York - Night
ENTER STAGE LEFT-Rowan Townsend, a twenty-nine year old Broadway starlet, strolls onto the dark, ominous stage. The bright spotlight finds her and she smiles broadly, her body buzzing in anticipation.
Rowan
Serendipity is a funny thing, isn’t it? It jumps out from behind the bushes and offers an unbelievable chance at happiness. It’s hopeful and intriguing, and maybe even a little terrifying.
ENTER STAGE RIGHT-Lark Hawthorne, a striking twenty-nine year old FBI agent and self-proclaimed liar, marches to Rowan and grabs her arm, coaxing her off stage.
Lark
Rowan, what are you doing? We need to leave. It’s not safe here.
Rowan and Lark look out into the audience and a menacing shadow in the back of the theater catches their attention. Her eyes expand in panic and he grips her hand tighter, offering reassurance.
Lark
It’s now or never. Are you ready?
EXIT STAGE RIGHT. Fade to black.

“I should probably go.” Lark begins to move off the bed, but I grab his hand. He takes a few breaths before turning toward me. And when he does, his eyes plead with mine.
“Lay with me? Just for a little bit.”
His eyes look to the door and he doesn’t answer. I can see warring emotions on his face. He seems to be weighing our odds.
I impatiently wait for his answer, but he doesn’t let go of my hand. He squeezes it, still watching the door.
After agonizingly long seconds, he kisses the top of my hand and walks to the door, closing it with a soft click.
Walking to the bed and pulls back the covers, slides into bed. He lies down next to me, slipping his arm behind my head, pulling me close to his body. I wrap my arm around his torso and entangle my legs with his.
I want to believe this could be easy. I want to pretend it wouldn’t be complicated as hell. So, instead of dwelling on what can’t happen, I lay my head on his chest, breathe in his unique, woodsy scent, that’ll I’ll never be able to forget, and listen to his heartbeat. He kisses the top of my head, his lips lingering for a long moment, and rubs my back in a gentle circular motion.
Before I know it, I’m fast asleep in Lark’s arms.
And when I wake later in the morning, the only sign that he was ever in my bed is the indention his body left in the sheets and his scent on my pillow.
Oh…and my memory.

~Leila~
Once we got home, I drove out to Johns Island, praying the entire way. One minute I prayed Brody would still be in New York. The next I prayed he would be there, waiting for me, ready to tell me what a fucking moron he had been.

I knocked on the door and Jane answered. I could see the pity in her eyes. She knew. I felt the tears welling up in my eyes, but I swallowed, blinked them back and went inside with her.
“Ruger is just out back. Come on. Let’s go to the kitchen. Are you hungry? Can I make you some lunch?”
“No thanks Jane. I’m not hungry. I don’t really have an appetite at the moment. I just want to get Ruger and get out of here before he gets home,” I said, looking around for my Shepherd. “You don’t know when Brody is getting in do you? Because I don’t want him to find me here. He was mad enough last night. I just want to grab my stuff and my dog, then I will leave him alone, like he wants.”
“Sweetie, I understand y’all are havin’ some issues right now, but just please give him some time to come around. He will. He just needs time.”
“Jane, I love you to death, but I don’t have time to wait for him to pull his head out of his ass. I have a baby to think about. I need to worry about us.” I placed my hand on my abdomen. “And how I am going to raise him or her by myself.” And here come the tears. “I’m going to go get my things from Brody’s bedroom. I won’t be long.”
Racing up the stairs, I grabbed everything of mine I could see. I left the gifts, jewelry and toys. I didn’t need any more reminders of Brody than I already had. Throwing the duffle over my shoulder, I went back down to get Ruger.
“Jane, I think I have everything. If you see anything else, would you please just set it to the side and call me. I could meet you somewhere.” I hit the bottom step. “You know, so I don’t have to come back out here.”
A look of panic flashed on her face and I knew.
He was home.
FML. Part of me wanted to run out the front door, but I could hear him talking to Ruger in the family room.
Fuck, fuckidy, fuck, fuck, fuck!
I knew he saw my car out front. It was pretty hard to miss. I felt a stray tear slip past and quickly wiped it away.
Jane walked to the foot of the stairs where I was standing and whispered, “Please Leila, just go talk to him. I promise he is calm. You know he won’t yell in front of me. Or Ruger for that matter,” she said with a little giggle, trying to lighten my mood.
“Jane, I don’t think it’s a good idea, I need to just go. He made it perfectly clear last night what his decision was. Please, don’t make this any harder on me.” I bit the inside of my cheek to distract myself from the emptiness and ache in my chest. We were whispering back and forth when I heard him clear his throat. I closed my eyes, looked down and took a deep breath.
You can do this. Just walk out the front door, whistle for Ruger and walk away. Come on, one foot in front of the other.

“I didn’t expect to see you here,” Brody whispered.

Long Shot

by

Lexi Whitlow

Reading a book by a new author is always a thrilling experience - and Long Shot did not let me down.

Natalie is a sweet girl with a feather dust touch of bad girl well hidden within. The nurse turned doctor's need for taking care of others get her in trouble when her bad boy stepbrother literally falls through her door.

Josh is an illegal MMA fighter struggling and fighting to turn his life around. Lexi Whitlow nails this reformed bad boy by keeping him full of flaws and far from perfect. what he does have is an honesty and a will to do better and be better. That makes him perfectly believable and easy to relate to. I for one found myself rooting for him to redeem himself every time he messed up.

This book is a very good debut novel and I highly recommend you pick it up for one of those cold autumn or winter nights that're waiting around the corner...it just might keep you warm.

Southern Perfection

by

Casey Peeler

This book has a little bit of everything including a few cliches. Raegan is the sweet, perfect girl everyone loves - and she is lovable. The author manages to keep her from being too sugary sweet and perfect, and she does have a few imperfections so she becomes more 3 dimensional.

Emmet is the poster boy for perfection...a little to perfect in my opinion and it makes him a bit too good to be true.

If I was a 16 year old girl this book would have been perfect. However, I'm a 37 year old who does enjoy YA romances and this book delivers a solid performance. It entertained me and I surely enjoyed reading it - but it's not a book I'd read a second time.

Fated To Be Mine

by

Jodie Larson

I was really excited about reading this book as Jodie Larson was an unknown author to me. Reading the first few pages I soon realized that this book was a sequel - yeah, I'd been a bit slow to realize this, but I decided that this book still needed a fair chance...and I did not regret it.

Tessa is a great girl who, like so many other women in the real world, struggle with low self esteem and practically no beliefs in herself. What makes her different from many other book heroines is the fact, that she realizes she has these problems, and it seems like she makes a big effort to keep them under control.

Andrew is a sweetheart. Patient and romantic he chips away at Tessa's walls of ice in the fight for her love and heart. He is the kind of man that every women wants for herself. It does not mean, that he is perfect because he has been made human by the author.

These two makes you want to cheer them on in their relationship - they make you laugh and cry with them while rooting for their happily ever after...do they get it? Well, you'll have to by the book and read it.

Enjoy :-)

I've made a mistake. Can we find our way back?

They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder, or that time heals all wounds. What they don't tell you is that it doesn't lessen the pain. I don't think those people have experienced a loss like this.

I left my heart in London, and I'm not sure I'll ever get it back.

But fate has a plan of her own. She keeps me guessing and hoping that not everything is as it seems.

Hearts can be shattered but can also be put back together. Especially when love doesn't give up on you, even if you think it has.
We busy ourselves getting the kitchen back in order. I show him where the knives and cutting boards are as he rolls up his sleeves. My movements slow slightly as I stare at his newly exposed forearms. There’s something about a man wearing a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up that is insanely sexy. It’s such a simple thing really, not meant to be sexual at all, but the look of it is hotter than just about anything else on the planet. Okay, that may be a stretch but let’s face it, it’s hot.
I pour two glasses of chardonnay from a bottle of wine that Kara left at my place the other night and slide one across the counter to Andrew, who pauses in his task. He raises his glass to mine, tapping them together as I relax against the countertop next to him. Thankfully he turned down my offer to help him cook. He probably remembers that cooking is not my strong suit and if we wanted to eat something that isn’t delivered or comes from a box, it’d be best if I just observed.
“To surprises,” Andrew says with a twinkle in his eye. He’s apparently thinking of our little romp on my desk, and honestly, so am I. I flush slightly as I take a sip of my wine and continue to watch him work his culinary magic.
“Are you sure you don’t need my help with anything? I feel bad just sitting here while you’re doing all the work in my kitchen. I mean, after all, you’re my guest this time.”
Andrew pauses between chops, looking up at me through his lashes with a sensual smile. “No. I just want you to stand there being cute and adorable.” His smile begins to smolder and there’s a new gleam in his eye. “Or you can get naked. Either one work for me.”
He wiggles his eyebrows and I laugh. “That’s not going to happen. If I get naked, I could possibly distract you, making you accidentally chop off a finger or something like that.” He just laughs, bending over to steal a quick kiss before resuming his task.
Fated to be Yours (Fated #1) - Released Sept 1, 2015
Hearts are fragile, and mine's been shattered before...

I have always thought of love in the abstract, never something to come true. My past has shown me time after time that those who are supposed to love you will only lead you to disappointment. Destiny, fate, chance...those are things that I have never believed in.

Until him.

A chance encounter with a distinct pair of blue eyes and a heart-melting smile challenges my knowledge of life and love.

Because there's something about this stranger that has me believing in the possibility of more...
What comes first…your plot or your characters?
I’d have to say my plot comes first. I need to get the idea in my head before I can get a character. As soon as I figure out where my story is headed and the major points I want to hit along the way, that’s when I start thinking about who I want in there.
Why did you choose the genre you write in?
I’m a hopeless romantic. Always have been. So writing a contemporary romance story was a no-brainer for me. I love happily ever afters and believe in love at first sight. I think two people can meet with just a glance and develop a whole love story with that one look. And like life not everything is easy and things get in the way, but it’s the obstacles that help build the relationship and make it stronger. I may not always stick to this genre. I’ve got several in mind that will have me break out into something else, but this will probably be where I stay more often than not.
Do you incorporate any of your own experiences into your books?
Some of my personality quirks get incorporated into different characters. A lot of my supporting best friend characters take after my friend personality because you know you always have that one friend who is a huge goof and can make you laugh. I’ve been told that’s me. Some scenes are true or based on real-life experience and some are just completely fictional and fantasies that I’ve had.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Read. It’s probably what I do the most when I’m not running my children all over the state for their various sports. In the off-chance that I’m not reading, you’ll probably find me wandering around stores doing some window shopping or watching my favorite movies on the couch. The really good ones, like FSOG or Black Swan, can’t be viewed until after the kids go to sleep.
Favorite movie and why?
Another tough question. Again, I can’t follow directions so I need to pick multiple ones. The hopeless romantic in me will watch The Holiday, 27 Dresses, The Mirror Has Two Faces and While You Were Sleeping over and over and over again. For comedies, almost anything Adam Sandler or Vince Vaughn, but The Waterboy and Anchorman are two that stick out as my favorites. Anchorman for sure because that cast is fantastic!!
What’s your favorite scene from your books?
From FTBY, it was the scene where she answered the door in her towel. I laughed a little when I wrote that. Another one I loved was when Andrew cooked for her at his apartment. In my mind, it gave Tessa a glimpse of his home life, how he’s just a regular guy who loves to do the same things she does.
From FTBM, I loved the scene where he surprised her at Sharon’s party and how he made it clear that he came there for her. The other scene I loved was when Tessa surprised him at his hotel room. And, of course, all their sexy time after that.
Do you prefer the beach or the mountains?
Why isn’t my bed an option? I love both, but I’d have to say beach. My pale skin doesn’t like the beach as much as I do, but every once in a while I need to crawl out of the cave and get my vitamin D intake. Plus beach implies warm and living in the land of perpetual winter makes me miss the warm weather.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Telekinesis. There are so many times I’d think to myself, why can’t this object just move because I’m looking at it? Or, why can’t my mouse just click on the thing I’m looking at? I don’t want mind reading powers because my own thoughts are scary enough that I have no ambition to listen to others. But to pick or find something just by thinking about it, I’ll sign up for that!
Jodie Larson is a wife and mother to four beautiful girls, making their home in northern Minnesota along the shore of Lake Superior. When she isn’t running around to various activities or working her regular job, you can find her sitting in her favorite spot reading her new favorite book or camped out somewhere quiet trying to write her next manuscript. She’s addicted to reading (just ask her kids or husband) and loves talking books even more with her friends. She’s also a lover of all things romance and happily ever afters, whether in movies or in books, as shown in her extensive collection of both.

Life is full of choices: good, bad, and ones you can’t control.
Raegan strives to be perfect in every way. Varsity cheerleader, honor student, and proud granddaughter of Dover Lowery. By day, Raegan is an over-achieving high school student, but at three o’clock, her real work begins.
What happens when appearances are not what they seem? Will Raegan be able to hold on to her life as she knows it, or will she be left all alone?
All of these questions are answered with one night, one song, one story, and one boy.
When Emmett whispers in my ear that it’s time to go, goose bumps rise on my skin.  I bite my lip and nod in agreement as we make our way outside.  Our ride to the farm is filled with laughter and a desire to constantly touch each other.  I hear Dustin Lynch begin to play through the radio, and before I know what’s going on, Emmett has pulled the truck off the side of the highway with the engine running.  I stifle a laugh as he runs to open my door and squeal as he takes my hand and pulls me to the ground and into his perfectly rock solid body. We sing to each other while moving to the beat as random cars continue down the two-lane highway past us.
On the final beat of the music, Emmett takes my cheek in his hand, my mind races as he pulls my lips to his, and he kisses me like his life depends on it.  This has to be the best kiss of my life.  If I thought I saw stars at the field party, I just got caught in an entire constellation.  When I’m brought back to reality, I know that in this moment, this boy is going to change my life.
