Two people caught in the darkness and held hostage by their secrets. Leslie and Theo are both damaged by their past and they're desperately trying to survive when they meet by chance. Amy Daws skillfully leads her reader through the maze towards the light of love.
Theo is a manly man no doubt about that - but it's a nice mix-up to see the leading man be the one to carry his heart on the sleeve and be all about feelings rather than the leading lady. That doesn't make him less brooding, but rather determined to catch an hold on to his ray of sunlight.
Leslie runs faster than Secretariat in the 1973 Belmont Stakes - she runs from her past, she runs from Theo but worst of all...she runs from herself. She lacks confidence and her favorite pass time seems to be putting herself down.
